The course includes both synchronous online class meetings and asynchronous content.  For asynchronous instruction students will engage in a variety of activities, such as watching pre-recorded lectures, webinars, documentaries, and podcasts.

This class has no prerequisites, and it is open to students at all levels, non-majors as well as History majors.

Destination:  Keweenaw, MI (Houghton-Hancock Area/Porcupine Mountains State Park) Travel Dates: Wednesday, September 16 – Sunday, September 20 SEES:4001 is a field trip class to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to describe geological processes related to continental rifting, lakeshore processes, and metal emplacement.  We also examine how geology and resource extraction has impacted the ecology and the social and economics development in the region.     We will be exploring the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and Keweenaw Peninsula from Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - Sunday, September 20, 2026.  Class will include a mandatory meeting prior to the trip to discuss expectations, planning, and equipment requirements.   Readings will also be assigned to prepare students for what we will see and talk about.  Additionally, small mapping and reflective writing assignments will be conducted at field trip stops, and notebooks will be turned in at the end of the trip.
