Baton: You are expected to purchase a baton the first day of class.  Not having a baton for class will result in loss of all participation points for that day. Shaft: The shaft should be wood, graphite, or carbon fiber (not fiber glass) and should match your height and arm length. Turn your palm upward and measure from the center of your palm to the bend of your elbow joint. Most people will use a 14-inch baton, but those 5’4” or shorter might consider a 12” baton, and those taller than 6’2” might consider a 16-inch baton. Handle: The handle should be wood or acrylic (not cork), small enough to fit and move inside your palm, and have a narrow teardrop, elliptical, classic teardrop, or small pear shape. The smaller your hands, the smaller your handle should be. Recommended Brands/Models: Newland Batons (teardrop, elliptical, or egg shape); Custom Batons (teardrop, narrow teardrop, or pear); Mollard (P or S series); Music Works Custom Batons (Opus 2 or 4). Part of this course is a practicum placement in an area school. As you plan your schedule, be sure to allow two hours per week between 8 AM and 3 PM for ten weeks of the semester to complete your placement.

Instruments are to be stored in the assigned lockers. There will be one $20 fee per class to cover the multiple lockers and instruments.
