Introduction and overview of the scope of public health; emphasis on history, definitions, issues, achievements, and future challenges; examples of public health research and practice.

This course is required for MS, PhD, and MHA students in the College of Public Health admitted for the fall 2012 session or later. It has an online component as well as one face-to-face session. Students who have earned an MPH, are earning an MPH, or who have taken an introduction to public health course may waive the course with the permission of the Associate Dean for Education and Student Affairs. This course is not open to other students.
