Introduction to instruments and techniques of experimental physics and basic skills needed for carrying out experimental physics research; hands-on use of a variety of instruments and equipment.

This course encompasses laboratory work in topics and techniques including: classical mechanics, electricity, magnetism, electronics, quantum mechanics, atomic physics, nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, solid state physics, plasma physics, optics, laser physics and spectroscopy.  The course emphasizes independent, hands-on operation of experimental apparatus, data acquisition, data reduction, interpretation and error analysis, and scientific reporting of results through formal written laboratory reports and presentations to the class. The course meets in required weekly lab sessions.
