Class will meet prior to trip to discuss expectations, planning, and equipment requirements. Additional readings, including preparatory and research papers, will be assigned prior to trip.
Trip duration to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park will be from Wednesday, September 17, 2025 - Monday, September 22, 2025.
Following trip, students will write a research paper about the geologic formation of materials that would later become resources or about the environmental impact of extracting those materials. These papers will be approximately 2000 words and use primary references as source material. We will use GSA-style parenthetical references. These papers will be due at the end of Thanksgiving break. Specific grading criteria, including a project description and a rubric, will be available for students.
