Provides 4 experiential units.  In addition to regular class time, students will be expected to schedule a weekly 2-hour shift for live-client work at Iowa Legal Aid's office (located in downtown Iowa City on the Ped Mall).  Students also will be expected to observe court proceedings on a couple of occasions outside of regular class time, and this may require travel within Johnson County or to surrounding counties, although students need not have their own transportation for this purpose.  Both the weekly shift at ILA and any court observation will count toward meeting ABA standards for out-of-class student work per credit hour, and other out-of-class obligations (e.g., time spent preparing for class) will be adjusted to reflect this.
