There are two major elements that make MyUI secure -- the part that we do and the part that you do.

Security is vitally important to us, so we do the following things to protect information about you:

  • MyUI will run on a secure web server. Your grades, class schedule, University bill, and Earnings Statement are sent to you via a secure (encrypted) connection
  • The MyUI server has direct connections to the mainframe and other databases that we access; this prevents an unauthorized person from "listening in" on conversations between the web server and mainframe MyUI
  • We don't store passwords or other sensitive information on our web server or on your browser
  • We time out sessions; if you forget to log out, MyUI will automatically log you out after a period ot time

We handle logins by sending a string of data that is unique for you as a user to your browser. This lets the MyUI server know that it is dealing with you and that you are correctly logged in during a session. This string of data is destroyed when you log out or even if you quit the browser without logging out.

The other major element in making the MyUI system secure is your own knowledge and awareness of ways to minimize the risks of others' inappropriately viewing information directed only to you. Your role in making MyUI a secure system is 1 ) to logout of your MyUI session; 2) to flush the cache before ending your Internet session; and 3) to close the browser.

What are the risks of merely closing the browser and walking off without flushing the cache? A savvy computer hobbyist with not enough to do could reconstruct pages from data stored in the cache. These pages would give this person a peek at information you had viewed in your previous session, but they would not allow the person actively to resume activity in your account or to access your ID in any way. The risk of not dumping the cache is not large, but in our opinion it is simply a good habit, so we advocate that you logout properly, learn to dump the cache in the browsers that you use, and close the browser.
